View InstagramWhat do you think about the form of these wooden chess pieces from @paul.joshua_ ? "Chess – the most legendary board game of all time – the game of kings. My granddad taught me how to play chess many years ago. During the pandemic, my passion for it was rekindled, as it was for so many others. During that time, I started designing my own chess pieces and spent over a year refining their look and realisation. In many elaborate steps, they are crafted into a perfect harmony of shape, weight and finish… All 32 pieces are hand-turned using European walnut and maple wood. I consciously forgo copy attachments and instead meticulously check the measurements, shape and quality of each piece. The knight’s head is carved by hand. In the final stages, the pieces are drilled out and completed by adding a brass weight. The wooden surface is finely sanded, oiled, and polished." — Follow @minimalgoods_ for daily design inspiration #entertainment #chess #chessboard #woodworking #woodturning #mg-chess-pieces

View InstagramSoft Pond by @nendo_official. I know I'm posting a lot of their work lately, but everything they do fits in perfectly with minimalgoods so I can't help it 🙉 A unique quality of flat-cut crystals, used for chandeliers and dresses, is that the thicker the material is, the more saturated its color gets. The same phenomenon appears in large bodies of water - the deeper the lake is, the darker its colour. Therefore, a mix of crystal thicknesses was used in the objects to gain a range of shades and convey a feeling of depth. The crystals were made by gradually increasing the thickness from top down, starting with 4mm, 5mm, 6mm, then 7mm. They were also tapered so they will become thinner towards the outer periphery, to create a gradient effect within the same depth of water. The result is a small vessel that resembles a small pond scooped up and placed on the table. The trays come in four different sizes, all with change of cutting at the same thickness, aimed to make the depth of water appear the same when using several vessels at the same time. View Instagram"A gardening device to help people grow plants from seed to bloom. By providing light, water, and air circulation into a planter, it creates a suitable environment for plants to grow healthily. We wanted to make sure that it has the impression of a tool which brings the joy of flower, unlike other existing smart planters. Although it could easily describe as an IoT device, we intentionally hid its ‘smartness’ and focused on emphasizing mutual communication between the user and the device by letting the users be the protector of the plant. While satisfying complex structural conditions for abundant light, water, and air, the overall shape and interface was kept simple for intuitive usability and its combination with the environment in which the device will be placed. We imagined as if the plant in Smart Planter is a protagonist in a small world where light, water, air and soil co-exists." Design by @bdci_design

View InstagramHere's another charming product from @nendo_official, one of my favorite design teams. A compact and easy to carry skipping rope was made based on the challenge “when putting away skipping rope they often get tangled” given from the children. The handles are in the shape of an easy to grasp and non-slip square ring, joined together into a single object by firmly fitting the right and left handles. The string can then be effortlessly wound up like a yoyo. In this way, the handles themselves serve as a slim storage case to be carried around without the fear of the rope accidentally unwinding. Opening can be done by simply pulling apart the handles. The rope then naturally falls out and untangles on its own without having to unwind it, and hence is immediately ready to be skipped with.

View InstagramThe Momentt wall clock is inspired by the idea of overcoming time limits, experiencing it more than a feeling and displaying it in a poetic way. Momentt consists of a funnelshaped, matt steel housing with a diffused front glass. With Momentt, time seems to blur with space and the hands magically disappear into the depth of the center of the clock. Momentt is therefore not just a technical display of time, but rather a poetic object that makes us think about time and yet visualizes the time in a subtle way. Link to purchase is in my store.
